Bites and String

These are very common damages, which are caused by insects, animal or plants. Sometimes while playing outside or riding a bicycle it may happen that an insect, animal or plant stings you. It may cause you to feel a sharp pain by pricking your skin, usually with poison. There is no need to worry about; a simple treatment may help you out.

What you can do

  • Remove the stinger by scraping with your fingernail or the blade of a knife. Do not try to remove it with tweezers as squeezing releases more of the poison into your body.
  • Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water
  • Apply ice, calamine lotion, or baking soda-and-water mixture to relieve the swelling and pain. Remember that the swelling should be gone within 24 hours.
  • A stinger that is not removed continues to release poison into the body for as long as 20 minutes.
